Have a Solemn Memorial Day

Just about every government holiday has been turned into an excuse for Troop Worship. As the United States’ descent into Fascism has accelerated since September 11, 2001, Militarism has of course taken center stage in our culture.  So now every holiday, every sporting event, and even many church services have to acknowledge the “heroism” and “sacrifice” of the troops.

For simply taking a government job and putting on a uniform, an ordinary American man or woman is transformed into a hero.  It doesn’t even matter what they do during their employment or where they’re stationed, we are all told to salute them.  Those that actually fight the never ending wars the regime in Washington wage do tend to get extra admiration, but fighting is not a prerequisite to being endlessly thanked for Military “service.”

But Memorial day should be different.  I, for one, don’t think that any of the wars conducted by the US Military in the 20th or 21st centuries have been moral or necessary.  I don’t think the troops were protecting the freedoms of ordinary Americans despite what the propagandists would have you believe.  I won’t be thanking any of the men or women who participated in these overseas slaughters.  That includes the so called “good war,” World War II.

But I do feel sympathy for all those who were killed and their families which is really what Memorial Day should be about.  They died in vain, but many of them in the last century were drafted. They often faced jail time or would have had to flee their homes for the safety of some neighboring foreign land.  Even those that willingly signed up, did so as confused young men and women being told lies by much older men and women who should have known better.  Sometimes their own teachers, parents, and clergy were the ones feeding them those lies.

So for all those killed in service to the Empire, you have my deepest sympathy if not my gratitude.  I hope you are faring better in the after life than you did in this life.  I hope your families have been able to move on and live relatively happy lives.

The same goes for all those civilians and average soldiers of foreign governments who were killed by the US Military.

The bird flu returns

The annual influenza scare is upon us.  It’s rather tame by 21st century standards.  The powers that be aren’t claiming it’s going to kill all of us this time.  But that isn’t stopping Uncle Sam from handing out some big fat checks to one of their favorite special interests, the American farmer.

Several Midwestern governors have declared states of emergency, opening the door for Federal funds.  Why is it the State’s job to bail out poultry farmers when some chickens get sick?  Is that somehow going to increase the supply of chickens?  No, the sick ones are dead or dying.  Money isn’t going to change that.  The price of eggs, turkey, and chicken has already increased in accordance with the law of supply and demand.  If you want chicken, you’ll have to pay a little more for it.  Some people will choose not to buy chicken, and therefore people who really want it and are willing to pay the higher prices can still get it. The market works.

So what are the federal funds for?  My guess is they’re just to help some of these giant agriculture corporations continue to turn a profit.  I mean if they didn’t bail them out and Tyson or Perdue took a loss this year, does that mean the poultry industry would cease to exist?  No one would ever raise a chicken again?  Of course not.

I assume one argument is that it will help them deal with the outbreak so it doesn’t continue to spread, but again I have to ask, don’t Tyson and Perdue have the resources to deal with this?  If the Feds didn’t hand over a couple billion, would they really just sit back and watch every single chicken in the USA die of bird flu?  I think these questions answer themselves.

Does the Pope hate American conservatives?

I’m not a Catholic, and I’ve never particularly cared for the Catholic Church or the Papacy. But this Pope seems to either be straight up stupid, or he’s on board with the Democrat Party, EU, and UN bureaucrats in seeking to hand over what’s left of our personal freedom in the West to the (increasingly global) State.  I guess he figures he’ll get a seat at the Power Table with these bastards, but maybe someone should break it to His Holiness, that the Obamas and Hollandes of the world don’t believe in God.  I’m starting to think maybe the Pope doesn’t either.  Maybe he’s just a giant neo-Marxist fraud.

His top adviser, one Cardinal Oscar Rodríguez Maradiaga, has attacked conservatives in the United States because they have taken issue with the Pope’s lectures about Capitalism being “evil” and “destroying the environment.”   The official position of the Church apparently is that the United Nations gets to determine how much energy everyone on Earth is allowed to use.  Do these guys actually think American Catholics are Liberals? Keep beating up on American Conservatives on the issues where they actually stand for Personal Freedom, and see how that works out for your Church.  The only people in US Cathedrals 10 years from now will be elderly Hispanic women.  I’m pretty sure donations will be down.  Let’s just hope they’re allowed to burn some fuel to keep warm.
